Dr. Leah Cordovez

Dr. Leah Codovez is a board certified internal medicine physician dedicated to the health of our community. After attending Vanderbilt University and the University of Panama Medical School, Dr. Cordovez completed her residency at the University of Tennessee/Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital, serving as the chief resident of internal medicine. She is fluent in Spanish and serves as a volunteer physician at Siloam Clinic and Catholic Charities and abroad participating in medical missions to Ecuador and Panama.


Laura L. Lawson, M.D. FACS

Breast Surgeon

Dr. Lawson grew up in Charleston, W. Va. and graduated from West Virginia University. After earning her medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, she performed her residency in general surgery and a fellowship in breast surgical oncology at Vanderbilt. She practiced four years at the Nashville Breast Center before co-founding Tennessee Breast Specialists.

Dr. Lawson’s husband, who she met during her residency program, practices pulmonary & critical care medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and at the VA Hospital. In her spare time she enjoys skiing, running, reading, watching HGTV, as well as playing ball with her two sweet, red-headed boys, Wade and Luke.

Dr. Lawson is the medical director of the Saint Thomas Health Breast Cancer Program, the medical director of the Multi-Disciplinary Breast Tumor Conference and the director of Tennessee Breast Specialists. She participates in many Baptist Hospital advisory committees and is active in Tennessee Women in Medicine. She enjoys helping with various breast cancer awareness activities in the community and has been selected as one of Nashville’s “Healthcare Heroes” and “Women to Watch.”


Dr. Kristina McCain


Dr Kristina McCain is a native of southern California. She earned her BA from Johns Hopkins University and received her MD at Vanderbilt University Medical School. She currently has an office gynecology practice in Franklin, TN. She has special interest in women’s wellness, polycystic ovarian syndrome and menopause. In Nashville, she volunteers at Siloam Family Health Center but most of her international medical missions have focused on cervical cancer prevention (early detection). Her annual medical mission trip to Mumbai, India is divided between working with prostitutes in the red light district and cervical cancer prevention at Ashagram, a safe house for women rescued from sex slavery.


Dr. Harriette Scarpero


Dr. Scarpero considers educating women about their urologic health to be an important component of the patient care she provides. As an expert in her field, Dr. Scarpero is active on many national urologic boards, past president of The Society of Women in Urology; and, has been published extensively in the areas of incontinence, urodynamics, and pelvic reconstruction.

Dr. Scarpero received her B.A. in English from the University of the South in 1989; graduated from Louisiana State University School of Medicine and completed her General Surgery Internship and Urology Residency at LSU Medical Center. Prior to joining Associated Urologists, she was Associate Professor of Urologic Surgery at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and a member of the Vanderbilt Academy of Excellence in Teaching. There her practice addressed complex reoperative cases as well as general female urologic cases.


Dr. Catherine Stallworth

Physical, Rehabilitation and Integrative Medicine Specialist
Dr. Catherine Stallworth’s work ranges from helping people with sports related injuries to complex medical illnesses. As a registered yoga teacher, she weaves Eastern practices such as yoga and meditation into her traditional Western medical approach to health and wellness. She graduated from the Baylor College of Medicine where she completed her training in physical medicine and rehabilitation. In addition to her medical practice, Stallworth teaches therapeutic yoga, anatomy and physiology and she is trained in medical hypnosis.


Mark B. Whaley, DDS


Dr. Mark B. Whaley, an accredited member of the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), grew up in North Hollywood, California. After receiving his doctorate from Case Western Reserve School of Dental Medicine, he became a commissioned officer in the U. S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California. During this time he was mentored by some of the finest specialists in all aspects of dentistry; which was instrumental in ushering him into a new frontier of dentistry… Cosmetic Dentistry.

In 1982, he opened a private dental practice in Encino, California. His dream of developing a dental practice of “understated elegance” flourished, catering to people of all aspects of the entertainment business of Los Angeles. His practice continued to grow until 1995, when he married and moved to Nashville, Tennessee. There he established an Aesthetic and General Dental Practice in the Maryland Farms area of Brentwood.

The practice today consists of people from all walks of life. Mary Sha Miller, RN, CBN, CCRP

Director of Bariatric Services
Mary Sha recently relocated to Nashville in July of 2012 to join the Metabolic Surgery Center at Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital and serve as their Center Director. She attended the University of Mississippi to pursue education to then discover that working with people in the healthcare setting was truly her passion. She graduated from the Presbyterian School of Nursing at Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina and began her career as a nurse. It was her experience working on a post-surgical floor that sparked an interest in the holistic care of the bariatric population. She began working in the field of research and education, giving her the opportunity to develop and implement comprehensive and educational programs for the bariatric patient while actively participating in the field of research. Daily witnessing patient’s diligence, hard work and motivation to make significant changes in their lives inspire her to continue promoting and educating the community in this specialized area of healthcare.
